Configuration Management
Information on network
configuration management is prolific on the net but this is another
subject where you can almost get a whole lot of information
overload so what does Configuration Management Mean from
specifically a network point of view.
Information on network
configuration management – From the International Standards
Organization (ISO) point of view
Configuration
Management provides facilities for identifying, associating names,
controlling, collecting data from, the continuous operation of and
the termination of connections of Managed Objects (MOs) within a
management domain.
The area of
Configuration Management allows the detection of new MOs, the
changing of the status of MOs and the detection of status changes in
MOs.
This means that the
Configuration Management process not only facilitates the
operational management of MOs and sets of MOs but can also be used
to underpin many of the Service Management processes, particularly
the Change, Release and Configuration Management
processes.
Configuration
Management includes the:
- Setting and
resetting of parameters for the routine operation of MOs.
- Association of names
with MOs and sets of MOs.
- Initialization,
reset and close-down of MOs.
- Collection of
information on demand about the current state of MOs.
- Receiving and
obtaining announcements of significant changes in the state or
condition of MOs.
- Changing of the
configuration of MOs or sets of
MOs.
