Configuration
Management Document Control is really the same as any other regimen.
That is no matter what the documentation within Configuration
Management needs to go through the same control measures as the most
important piece of intellectual property that the organization
owns.

reality
As we know, all too
often, the reality behind a good proportion of what we do in IT has
a quality process behind the work we do but the documentation is
typically the poor cousin. You know the old adage of a job is not
complete until the paper work is finished? If this be true, in IT we
rarely complete a job!
Configuration
Management Document Control – how do we get everyone to adhere to
the policies?
Well if there was one
easy way to achieve this, everyone would be happy. Is this where the
quality models come in? And also how do we change the organizational
attitude that all this is an overhead rather than a value
add?
The worst thing is
that with this column I realize that I am not really answering any
questions for the reader. I am actually highlighting more questions!
I think this is an extremely good indicator that this is not a
subject with an easy fix but rather something that really needs to
be worked at.
