Configuration
Management Certification
Configuration
management certification is achieved through attendance and
subsequently passing the Practitioner Certificate in IT Service
Management. The mandatory prerequisite to attend this course is
successfully completing the Foundation Certificate in
ITSM.
Configuration
Management Certification - Objectives
The following list
contains the five main subjects, with a breakdown of individual
tasks that are assessed for certification.
The Configuration
Management Plan
The candidate is able
to understand and introduce a Configuration Management Plan. The
candidate is able to:
- Implement the
Configuration Management process, based on the Configuration
Management Plan
- Describe the
difference between Asset Management and Configuration
Management.
The Configuration
Management Database
The candidate is be
able to perform an initial capture of data for the Configuration
Management Database (CMDB) and is able to manage the CMDB at the
procedure level. The candidate is able to:
- Plan and implement
an initial capture of CI data
- Populate the
CMDB
- Implement procedures
for the registration of new CI’s and removal of write-off
CI’s
- Manage and maintain
the CMDB to ensure that it is consistently up to
date.
Design coding systems,
attributes and name conventions
The candidate is able
to set up and maintain coding systems, make proposals for name
conventions and identifies attributes and relationships and name
conventions for configuration items (CI’s). The candidate is able
to:
- Design and implement
impact codes
- Design and implement
priority codes
- Design and implement
naming convention for CI’s
- Identify attributes
of CI’s and all required relationships.
Procedures and working
instructions
The candidate is able
to work according to Configuration Management procedures and
translate these procedures into practical activities. The candidate
is able to plan, elaborate, optimize and carry out these activities.
The candidate is able to implement procedures and working
instructions for:
- The use of support
tools
- The registration of
CI’s
- The identification
of CI’s
- The verification of
CI’s
- An audit of CI’s
against the CDMB.
Reporting
The candidate is able
to produce reports on the basis of the Configuration Management
Database and explain what reports are possible. The candidate is
able to:
- Identify the type
and format of reports required within the
organization
- Produce impact
reports, summary reports and history reports for the following
target groups: the Configuration Manager, the Change Manager, the
Problem Manager, the Service Level Manager, and the Availability
Manager.
